Is it okay to ask for samples of perfume or makeup at department stores like Macy's?

If you walked into Macy's and asked, ';Can I have a sample of the perfume, Escada Moon Sparkle?'; or ';Can I have a sample of the lip gloss?'; Would the sales people look at you weirdly or just give you a sample? If you've ever done this before, tell me what you asked for and if you got it :)

If they have samples, they would be delighted to give them to you. Trust me, I do this ALL the time!





They are trying to get you to buy their product, so they'll give you a sample in hopes that you'll like it and come buy the product.





I've gotten TONS of free samples in my lifetime, and the sales people are eager to give them to you.





Want to know another way to get free stuff? Ask at the beauty counter for a makeover and they'll do it for free! Plus, places like Sephora offer a free membership thingy where they'll send you samples in the mail and you'll get discounts at the store!

As a former beauty counter employee at Macy's, the answer is technically yes. You should show basic etiquette in asking though; At least pretend to be interested in the counter and products, otherwise you will come off as a freebie wh*re, and reps will often say they don't have any in order to save for customers who will potentially buy. I hope I don't seem cruel, but it's the truth.
You should be able to ask for a sample, just don't go overboard and ask for a dozen of them. If it's perfume, ask if they have sample vials or sample cards. They will probably have them behind the counter or can decant one for you.
I have actually done this before in Macys with an eye cream and it was fine they couldnt be more happy to help... im pretty sure most people do this to test the product before they actually buy it so youll have no probs x
I didn't know you could ask for lip gloss sample... hm. do they really have that?


and yes duude i have a purse full of perfume samples from sephora, nordstrom, macys... etc. its amazing :)
